OUr LOGO - OUR DNA

Our logo is a public depiction of our DNA, the very core of who VCA is. Because we believe we are a multi-faceted school that educates the whole person, we felt we needed a logo that covers at least four dimensions: the soul, the mind, the heart, and the will. These correspond to the Christian faith, our educational philosophy, the character of the students, and their lives after our school.

The Trinity Knot signifies the centrality of teaching a Christian Worldview

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the one true and living God, and all things find their proper place in relation to Him. The Scriptures teach that Christ is the foundation, beginning, and fulfillment of all knowledge (Col. 2:3); an education that does not begin and end with the Lordship of Christ in all things is by nature a deficient education. We are seeking to produce students who know the Lord, not just that 2+2=4. Education and discipleship go hand in hand as education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on truth, goodness, and beauty so that the student is better able to know and enjoy God.

The Pillars signify our approach to Classical Education

Tapping into the wisdom of the past to excel in the future. The classical model is a thoughtful approach to education that honors the past, engages the whole person, takes students from where they are, and cultivates a love for ancient languages. The three-pillared building points to our use of the Trivium or the ‘three ways’ of learning which are grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Though these were studied strictly as subjects in the past, we will use them as subjects and the different stages students go through developmentally, beginning with grammar and ending with rhetoric. Students will move through these different stages during their time at VCA.

The Pillars also signify our relationship with the various churches in our area. Together with local churches we are raising up the future generations of Christians who belong to ‘the household of God, which is the church, the pillar and buttress of truth (veritas)’ 1 Timothy 3:15.

The Scales signify our commitment to Virtue and Excellence in all of life

The Scales have historically represented Justice, which is virtuous or righteous living. VCA will educate our students in virtue which has to do with the moral formation of students. Because human beings are integrated creatures, we educate the whole person, body, soul, mind. That means we place a high value on academics, but also in cultivating virtue, character, and integrity of the students. The cardinal virtues of temperance, prudence, justice, and courage, along with the biblical virtues of faith, hope, and love will be our guide in cultivating virtue in our students.

Another way virtue has traditionally been thought of is the pursuit of excellence in all of life. Each student will be instructed and encouraged to demonstrate excellence in everything they do. Academics, interaction with classmates, electives, chapel services, personal work ethic, hobbies, and interests will all be pursued with virtue and excellence.

The Torch signifies Legacy and Leadership

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” – Psalm 119:105.

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” – 2 Corinthians 4:6

Light is a metaphor for knowledge and glory. Without the light, we stumble in the dark. Without knowledge, we stumble through life. Without glory to strive for, life is dull. The torch signifies the knowledge and light of the gospel in particular and a high quality education in general. Each student at VCA will receive this torch of knowledge to light their path as they carry it through the rest of their lives. We desire our students to pursue glory and to leave a legacy for the cause of Christ’s kingdom on earth and the glory of God.
